Dr. Rich Bryant

Dr. Richard Bryant, Medical Director and Co-owner of Salem Animal Hospital since January 2008, has dedicated his career to providing exceptional veterinary care. Raised in Roanoke, Dr. Bryant attended the Glenvar school system before earning both his bachelor’s and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degrees from Virginia Tech. Following in his father’s footsteps, he and his wife Danielle took ownership of Salem Animal Hospital, where she serves as Practice Manager and Co-owner.

Dr. Bryant’s passion for veterinary medicine began in his youth while assisting his father at the clinic. His early experiences instilled a deep appreciation for the profession. Though he initially pursued a career in the telecom industry, rising from field technician to management in the engineering department, he ultimately realized his true calling was in veterinary medicine. Returning to school, he earned his DVM and has never looked back.

Professionally, Dr. Bryant’s interests include managing complex medical and surgical cases, particularly in soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, ultrasound, endoscopy, and internal medicine. He finds immense fulfillment in helping pets recover and witnessing the joy this brings to their families. His commitment to excellence is reflected in his active membership in local, state, and national veterinary medical associations.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Bryant treasures time with his family. He and Danielle have been married since 1996 and are proud parents to two grown sons, Jake and Noah, and daughter-in-law Karie. Their family also includes two Redbone Coonhound brothers, Sam and Dean, named after the iconic TV characters from “Supernatural.”

An avid outdoorsman, Dr. Bryant enjoys exploring the mountains with his dogs and engaging in various outdoor pursuits that help him recharge. Central to his life is his Christian faith, which guides his personal and professional journey. He credits his successes to Jesus Christ and finds strength in his faith during life’s challenges. Dr. Bryant’s dedication, compassion, and unwavering values make him a trusted and respected leader in veterinary care.

Dr. Hannah Perez

Dr. Hannah Perez has been an Associate Veterinarian at Salem Animal Hospital since June 2021. Originally from Frederick, MD, she earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology and Math from St. Mary’s College of Maryland in 2017. She went on to receive her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in 2021. While attending vet school, Dr. Perez and her husband fell in love with Southwest Virginia and decided to settle in the Roanoke area after graduation.

Dr. Perez’s journey into veterinary medicine began after working in a research lab, where she considered a career in human medicine. However, she realized that the unique and meaningful human-animal bond drew her toward veterinary care. She appreciates the combination of science, animal care, and client relationships that veterinary medicine provides. Her favorite aspect of the profession is building long-term relationships with pets and their owners, offering both preventative and compassionate care.

Her professional interests include dermatology, internal medicine, and senior pet care. Dr. Perez finds these areas especially rewarding, as they often involve solving complex cases and creating tailored care plans that improve the quality of life for pets and peace of mind for their owners.

Outside of work, Dr. Perez lives in Salem with her husband, their three cats—Meatball, Noodle, and their “foster fail” Earl—and their scruffy terrier mix, Tater Tot. They enjoy fostering cats and kittens for local shelters, hiking, spending time outdoors, and visiting friends and family. Passionate about travel and new experiences, Dr. Perez and her husband love exploring new cuisines and cultures together.

Dr. Jordan Weintraub has been an associate veterinarian at Salem Animal Hospital since 2018. Originally from Southampton, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia, he earned his Bachelor’s degree from Gettysburg College and his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Missouri. After completing veterinary school, Dr. Weintraub relocated to Roanoke, Virginia with his wife, who grew up in the area.

Dr. Weintraub has always had a passion for veterinary medicine, combining his love of animals, science, and problem-solving. He thrives on the challenge of diagnosing and treating patients who cannot communicate their symptoms directly. For him, the most rewarding moments include not only helping sick animals recover but also supporting the people who care for them. One defining experience was diagnosing and surgically resolving a life-threatening obstruction in a patient, affirming his dedication to the profession.

With a strong interest in surgery, Dr. Weintraub continues to expand his expertise in advanced procedures, striving to provide comprehensive care for his patients.

Outside of work, Dr. Weintraub enjoys spending time with his growing family, which includes his wife, a fellow veterinary professional, their toddler, and another child on the way. Despite the demands of fatherhood and veterinary medicine, he makes time to stay active, maintain a social life, and cheer on his favorite Philadelphia sports teams whenever he can.

He completed his undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech in 2020 and continued his veterinary education at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine, earning his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) in May 2024.

Dr. Alexxis Nall is an Associate Veterinarian at Salem Animal Hospital, originally from Cooper City, Florida. Her journey in veterinary medicine began at a young age, sparked by summers spent riding horses at farm camp. That early love for animals led her to volunteer at rescues, shadow veterinarians, and work as a kennel technician in high school. She continued gaining experience as a veterinary assistant through college and later as a technician at an equine practice. Dr. Nall earned her undergraduate degree from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, where she met her fiancé, and completed veterinary school at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Her move to Virginia was inspired by her fiancé’s enrollment in medical school at Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, and they’ve since enjoyed the change of scenery and cooler weather.

Dr. Nall chose general practice because she enjoys all areas of veterinary medicine and wanted the opportunity to explore a wide variety of cases. Her top interests include cardiology, neurology, neonatal/pediatric care, ultrasound, and clinical pathology. She has a special passion for complex cases that require thorough diagnostic work and close, attentive care. One of the defining moments in her career was during clinical rotations, when caring for critically ill patients and receiving genuine gratitude from their families confirmed that she was exactly where she was meant to be.

Outside of work, Dr. Nall enjoys exploring the outdoors with her fiancé and their pets—Boomer, a black Labrador Retriever/Great Dane mix; a chocolate English Labrador Retriever; and their two cats, Hokie and Sunday. They enjoy walking the dogs along the greenway and letting them swim in the river, as well as traveling across the U.S. with the goal of visiting every National Park—and possibly trying out van life in the future. Dr. Nall also dreams of one day owning a farm with goats, combining her love of animals and the outdoors into her ideal lifestyle.

Dr. Amanda Gabriel

Dr. Amanda Gabriel joined the Salem Animal Hospital team as a veterinarian in July 2025, bringing with her a vibrant passion for animal care and a deep belief in the human-animal bond. A native of the Delaware beaches, Amanda’s journey took her from the coastal shores to the heart of Washington D.C., before settling in the scenic New River Valley—a place whose natural beauty captured her heart.

Amanda earned her Bachelor of Science with a concentration in cellular biology and a double minor in Spanish and creative writing from Washington College. She went on to complete her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine in 2025.

Although she initially pursued a path in human medicine, Amanda quickly realized her true calling lay elsewhere—animals brought her joy! From rescuing birds and reptiles as a child to caring for family pets and riding horses at summer camp, her life has always been deeply intertwined with animals. That enduring connection continues to fuel her commitment to helping families keep their pets healthy and happy.

At Salem Animal Hospital, Dr. Gabriel combines her medical knowledge with genuine compassion to provide comprehensive care. She is especially passionate about surgery, where she finds both intellectual challenge and immediate reward in being able to make a tangible difference.

Outside the clinic, Amanda seeks balance by feeding her creative side through painting, crafting, and DIY projects. She’s also an avid cook and a regular at Burn Bootcamp. Her greatest joy comes from time spent outdoors with her two beloved pitbulls, Annie and Chloe—whether that’s hiking through the woods or relaxing by the creek.

Dr. Gabriel is proud to serve the Salem community and is always eager to educate, support, and connect with fellow pet lovers.
